Traffic Jam's Brew Release Party
Calling the corner of Canfield and Cass home since 1965, Traffic Jam & Snug will host its first-ever beer release party introducing tradition Belgian white ale Owosso Wheat. The event, which will be held in the Traffic Jam’s newly-renovated and expanded bar area, will feature $3 drafts and half-off appetizers and growlers of hand-picked, unmalted Michigan Ososso Wheat. Vintage beer-hall music will be provided by accordionist Ray Battani. “It is fun and rewarding to experiment using local ingredients to make our hand-crafted beer,” said Chris Reilly, a nine-year Traffic Jam brew master. “Being the first Michigan brew pub, I think it is appropriate to mark our first beer release party with the Owosso Wheat. I am looking forward to sharing this beer with our guests.” Owosso Wheat, which gets its name from a Michigan city east of Flint, is “subtle but complex,” Reilly says. “It’s very light in appearance and in body. It has a unique grain flavor.” Customers who haven’t been to Traffic Jam in the last three or four months can enjoy the modernized bar, which “was very dated prior to the renovation,” Reilly says. Mahogany and custom mill work has replaced the ‘70s-themed black tile motif, and the back bar was salvaged from the now defunct Blue Moon. Growlers will be available for $10 filled out the door and $8 for a refill (normally $15 and $10). 4:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday, Traffic Jam & Snug, 511West Canfield, Detroit, 313.831.9470. Free.
